Hole 1

Hole Description

Plateau - A challenging opening hole, only 22 yards short of being a Par 4. Requires a long accurate shot to find the green. Out of Bounds on the left and bushes on the right present problems.

Pro's Tip

Anything long of the green is in serious danger so it's best to stay short. You'll be happy to avoid a big number here.

Hole Description

Hope Grant - A hole that can ruin your round before it's even got going. A long, straight Par 4 from the white tees, Par 5 from the red tees, with trouble right and left. Needs two good shots to find the tricky undulating green. Justifies its position as stroke index 1 for men.

Pro's Tip

Be wary of the bushes that pinch into the fairway on both sides about 220 yards from the tee. The ball will always bounce towards them. Middle of the green with your approach is often a better play than going for the flag.

Hole Description

Nest - A welcome rest from the first two holes, this is a short Par 4. A medium length drive will leave a short pitch to a flat green. Do not go long, as the trouble is through the green.

Pro's Tip

Right hand side of the fairway is favourable off the tee as there is a tree blocking approach shots coming in from the left.

Hole Description

Spinney - A classic length Par 3. The green is bowl-shaped green and can't be seen from the tee. Birch trees in front of the green will block any ball that isn't hit far enough or high enough.

Pro's Tip

There's more room out to the left than you think and this is definitely the better side to miss it on. Anything right of the green and you'll take a bogey.

Hole Description

Blockade - A straightforward short Par 4. Longer hitters can reach the green although it isn't always advantageous to do so.

Pro's Tip

Layup off the tee leaves an easy wedge shot. Another bowl shaped green mean any approach into the heart of it leaves an uphill putt.

Hole Description

Heather - A good length Par 4 with a generous fairway. There approach is not so generous with trouble long, left and right plus a wicked down-slope at the front of the green. 4 here is a good score.

Pro's Tip

In summer you're better off landing your approach short of the green. In winter, land it in the heart of the green and it will hold. Hit the down slope at the front and your ball will shoot over the back of the green and into all sorts of trouble.

Hole Description

Windmill - A dog-leg left Par 4 with a 130 yards carry over a ravine from the tee. The further around the dogleg you go the easier your approach in. Don't get too ambitious though, the trees will gobble up your ball!

Pro's Tip

This green is deceptively difficult to find with your approach. If you miss it, make sure you miss on the correct side and don't short-sight yourself.

Hole Description

Elcho - A long Par 3 for men, short Par 4 for women with a tricky green that slopes from front left to back right.

Pro's Tip

There's plenty of space left of the green and not a lot to the right so that's definitely the side to miss it on although it does leave a tricky pitch down the green. Make sure you don't leave this above the hole otherwise you'll have a knee-knocker of a putt.

Hole Description

Big Ravine - Back over the ravine on this short Par 4. It's a 140 yard carry to get over but once you're over it's just a short shot into a bowl shaped green. Longer hitters can go for this green off the tee.

Pro's Tip

A good birdie opportunity. Another bowl-shaped green which means anything in the heart of it should leave you a nice uphill putt.

Hole Description

Long Butt - A short Par 4 with a tree to the left which you'll have to navigate off the tee. A good tee shot will leave a short iron into the green.

Pro's Tip

Watch out for the patches of rough just short of the green. Go in these and it's a tough up-and-down pitching out onto a down-slope.

Hole Description

Running Deer - There is a large oak tree in the middle of the fairway about 200 yards from the tee. Navigate your way around this and you'll have a short iron into the green.

Pro's Tip

It's best to go just left of the oak tree off the tee but be careful not to stray too far offline as you will end up in the bushes!

Hole Description

Queensmere - The most testing Par 3 of all from the white tees, Par 4 from the red tees. A long and accurate tee shot is required. Anything slightly off line and you're in trouble.

Pro's Tip

Everything feeds from left to right as it approaches the green so aim at the silver birch just left of the green. Anything central or to the right may bounce into the bushes.

Hole Description

Sand Pit - A short, straight Par 4, but needs an elevated drive to clear the silver birches 50 yards in front of the tee. The green slopes from left to right

Pro's Tip

Try to find the centre/right side of the fairway as approaches coming in from the left are landing with the gradient making it difficult to hold the green, especially in the Summer.

Hole Description

Paradise - Our signature hole. A good tee shot leaves a medium to long iron to a green surrounded by Scots pines. A par here is a just reward.

Birches - A short Par 4 down the hill to a green that has a steep down slope at the front of it then slopes from back to front. A good birdie opportunity.

Pro's Tip

A hole which the longer hitters can go for off the tee. You can either land your approach short of the green and let it roll down the hill or land it in the middle of the green where it should stop quickly pitching into an up-slope.

Hole Description

Caesar's Well - The shortest hole on the course with a tricky green. You can get some tough pin positions on this one.

Pro's Tip

Use the slope on the left of the green to feed the ball back to the middle. Often if the pin is tucked away around the edge of the green you are better off playing to the heart of it, leaving yourself an uphill putt.

Caesar's Camp - A Par 4 up the hill that doglegs slightly to the right. A good drive will leave a short iron into the green which slopes from right to left.

Hole 18

Hole Description

Long Hole - The only Par 5 on the course for men. With a road and ditch 230 yards from the tee you are given the option of laying up and playing it as a 3 shot hole or going for it with a long drive. Hitting it over the road may mean you can reach in two but it'll leave you with a blind second shot up the hill.

Pro's Tip

The safe play is to layup and play it as a 3 shot hole. The line off the tee for both those who lay up and those who decide to send it, is the path going over the road just right of the centre of the fairway.
